EFJ GENERAL MEETING 2010
This year the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ/IFJ) General Meeting will take place in Istanbul (Turkey) on 16-18 April.
We are very pleased by the kind offer of the Turkish Union of Journalists' (TGS, Türkiye Gazeteciler Sendikasi) to host the meeting.
The meeting will discuss both the journalists’ rights’ agenda at the fringes of Europe as well as issues related to the future of journalism and journalists and their unions.
We are very pleased that Guy Ryder, the General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, has accepted the invitation to discuss the industrial challenges ahead of us and unions’ responses including recruitment strategies that include reaching out to new sectors. All our unions face the challenge of embracing and including a new generation of journalists, while established European industrial relation schemes are changing.
We have also invited Heidi Hautala, the Chairwoman of the European Parliament Sub-Committee for Human Rights, to discuss with the GM and our Turkish colleagues Turkey’s challenges for press freedom and democracy.
A draft agenda is attached.
