French Journalists Concerned About the Future of France Soir
Aubervilliers, 30/09/2002
Media Release from USJ-CFDT, SNJ, SNJ-CGT and the "intersyndicale"
of the journalists of France Soir
The journalists’ unions (USJ-CFDT, SNJ, SNJ-CGT) are very concerned about the future of the France Soir newspaper. Last week at the headquarters they expressed their intention to participate in the effort to revive the newspaper.
However, their level of engagement will depend on:
1) The explicit will of the stockholder(s) to continue publishing France-Soir, a nationwide general newspaper.
2) The validity of the revival effort, and thus the number of working posts, as the only guarantee for the quality of the content.
3) The management’s respect for the current conventions and agreements.
4) If the plans to split up "Presse Alliance" into two distinct entities (publication and printing machines) are abandoned.
5) The real implication of the Syndicat de la Presse Parisienne (SPP) in the setting-up of an advertising strategy.
The unions declare that they are ready to continue negociations with the management of France-Soir, with the collaboration of the SPP, to formalise the re-launch of the prestigious newspaper, victim of 20 years of erratic management by the successive owners.
